How we make money

Free to read. This page says who pays us, what that does not change, and how you can check.

Right now

No link on this site pays us anything today. No commissions, no sponsorships, no paid placements. When that changes, the disclosure will appear next to the button, on the same screen, and this page will say so because it reads the same switch the buttons do.

What a commission does not change

  • Not your price. A commission is paid by the provider out of what you were going to pay anyway.
  • Not who is on the list. The state decides which providers are approved. We reproduce that list in full, including the providers that pay us nothing and the ones that have no affiliate program at all.
  • Not the order. The ordering rule is published on the methodology page, and it is the same rule on every state file.
  • Not the requirement. What your state requires is what your state requires. If the cheapest approved option pays us zero, that is still what the page shows.

Why we say this so loudly

Because the conflict is real and pretending otherwise is how these sites go bad. A site paid by course sales has an incentive to tell you that you need a course. Ours is the opposite bet: some pages here will tell you that your job is exempt, or that your state charges nothing, and those pages earn us nothing. If we ever start burying that, this page is the promise you get to hold us to.

Who pays us

Course providers, through their own affiliate programs. Never a state agency, never an employer, and never anyone in exchange for coverage, placement or a kind word. We do not sell ads, we do not sell your data and we do not take payment to appear on a list.
